Staying Strong on the Go: My Favorite Way to Keep Up With Fitness While Traveling
While visiting my husband’s family in Salt Lake City about a year and a half ago, my sister-in-law introduced me to a YouTube fitness blogger she loved: Lindsey Bomgren with Nourish Move Love. At the time, I was still fairly new to exercising consistently, and I’ll admit—I was skeptical. Could I really commit to a YouTube workout plan and stick with it?
But she showed me how easy it was to get started. Lindsey offers free weekly workout plans delivered straight to your inbox every Sunday, complete with clickable links to every workout. I decided to give it a shot the following week—and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Fast forward to today: I’m in the best shape of my life—stronger physically and mentally. I may not look “beefy” or bulky, but I feel strong, confident, and energized in a way I hadn’t before. That strength helps me show up for my kids in ways I couldn’t have imagined before starting this journey.
As Lindsey often reminds her followers, “It takes weeks and months to build muscle, but only a couple of weeks to lose it.” That mindset has really stuck with me, especially when we’re traveling. Whether we’re on a beach vacation or hopping between cities in Europe, I make exercise a non-negotiable part of my routine—not because I have to, but because I want to feel good and keep my momentum going.
What makes this sustainable? Lindsey makes it easy.
She offers a 2-week bodyweight workout program that requires no equipment—you can literally do it anywhere, from a vacation rental living room to a hotel balcony. It’s perfect for travel days when time or space is limited. I usually pack a small set of exercise bands and sometimes workout gloves, but that’s it. No excuses needed.
Her workouts are:
Free and accessible on YouTube
Short (many under 30 minutes!)
Safe for all fitness levels
Efficient and effective—think HIIT, strength, and mobility in one
If you’re curious or just want to feel a little stronger and more energized while on the road, I highly recommend checking her out.

Fueling my Body on the Go: Protein and Creatine Staples
In addition to staying active, I make it a point to support my energy and recovery through simple, travel-friendly nutrition. Each morning, I mix one scoop of creatine into my coffee—a routine that helps with strength, endurance, and overall muscle maintenance, especially when I’m working out on vacation. It dissolves easily and has no taste, so it’s one less thing to think about as I get the day started.
When it comes to protein, my go-to is 1st Phorm’s Level-1 Protein Powder. It’s the only brand I’ve found that doesn’t cause GI upset, which is a game-changer for me. I’ll stir it into oatmeal or yogurt when I have access to a kitchen, or simply shake it with water for a quick, balanced option when we’re on the move. It keeps me full longer, helps balance my meals when travel throws off our eating schedule, and is a great backup for days when meals are unpredictable.
To make bringing protein on the go easier, I always pack my protein shaker and use stackable powder containers that hold pre-measured servings. These little guys fit easily into my carry-on or day bag, and I always pack a few extras in case we’re out longer than expected. They’ve become a non-negotiable part of my travel prep.
And when we’re road-tripping or heading out for a full day of exploring, I always throw in a couple of ready-to-drink options: Fairlife Protein Shakes (which range in protein content, but I always make sure I have at least 30 grams) and Ready Water (20 grams of protein in just 90 calories). They’re perfect for long drives or beach days when prepping something isn’t an option.
When I’m not traveling or on the road, I still keep up the momentum at home—and that’s where my weighted vest really comes in. It’s become a go-to part of my everyday fitness routine, whether I’m adding resistance to bodyweight workouts, going for a neighborhood walk, or just getting in some movement between meetings. It’s a compact, versatile tool that keeps me on track no matter where I am.
These small, consistent habits help me feel more like me, even when I’m far from home.
